What were your long-term goals and have there any obstacles or challenges along the way?

I am aiming to run from John O’Groats to Land’s End in June of 2025 - a distance of 1400km - running 50km a day for a month. I first came to Ed for help recovering from hip adductor tendinopathy, but over the last 10 months he has helped me with acute issues such as a turned ankle and a minor LCL strain

Over the course of your rehab and event journey, what has Ed worked on with you?

I think the easier question would be: What hasn’t Ed worked on with me? His advice and expertise have been holistic, from sports massage, to targeted strength work ensuring resilience in key joints, to rehabilitation exercises from acute injuries, to plyometric work focusing on power transfer and generation. The depth and breadth of the programme Ed has created has been transformative!

What have you learnt or Ed has shown/taught you along the way?

I have a keen interest in fitness and sports science and wouldn’t say I’m a novice in the field, but despite this Ed has taught me so much in the specific exercises he has provided, which encompass stability, strength and power generation

What has Ed given you (if anything) to work on between appointments?

An entire programme including a breakdown of how to align it with my existing training. These include mobility, warm up, plyometric, rehabilitation, and strengthening exercises. Ed spends time going through exercises in person to give thorough form cues and provides a PDF that provides links to instructional videos

What changes or improvements have you noticed?

I am more resilient and am able to run further while still feeling strong. During October 2024, as part of my preparation for JOGLE I ran a half marathon and four marathons in 6 days, I firmly believe that would not have been able to do this without Ed’s help

In your own words, sum up your overall experience/journey?

Overwhelmingly positive, I trust Ed implicitly to have my best interests at heart and to help me achieve my goal. I have since moved away from Reading to Wokingham but still travel to appointments with Ed because I cannot think of anyone I would rather work with. If you take your sport seriously and are willing to put in the effort, working with Ed will make you a superior athlete, of that I have no doubt!

Ed had this to say about Joe's programme and training journey...

"When Joe first came to see me, he was struggling with adductor tendinopathy, which severely limited his training. He was running 4-5 times a week, totalling 60km, but this was becoming increasingly difficult, and he was considering cutting back further. Seeking help, he turned to me to get back on track.

Fast forward several months, and Joe is now consistently running 100-110km a week without pain or discomfort. His rehab focused on load management, manual therapies, and strengthening exercises for his adductor, gradually exposing it to higher demands and ensuring it supported his running. This gradual return to running has allowed Joe to maintain steady progress without setbacks.

It’s been a pleasure working with Joe over the past year. Throughout this time, it became clear that he also valued sports massage for recovery and exercise rehabilitation for injury prevention, to help with his huge training goals. Together, we created a tailored program addressing running biomechanics, injury prevention, and functional training, which directly contributed to his running performance.

Joe has put in an incredible amount of work in to prepare for June, and while I’ve supported his journey, his dedication has been key. Before working with me, his longest run was a half marathon! This challenge is ambitious, but I’m confident the work we’ve done has set Joe up for success in his upcoming John o’Groats to Land’s End adventure. Joe is raising money for a couple of charities along the way. Any donation, big or small, would be greatly appreciated. Please see the link to his donation page for more details about his journey and the charities he’s supporting.
